2010 Spillover 09 : Cebu-licious...

Skywalking
Our last sea trip before going home is the 6-hour Dumaguete-Cebu via Cokaliong's MV Filipinas Iloilo (http://www.cokaliongshipping.com). We got the Saturday midnight trip so we would just spend the night and sleep on it. We got the Tourist bunks for Php 600.00. Rommel deposited his ID for three sets of beddings we could use. So we freshen up, setup our beds and as early as 10:30 PM, an hour and a half before the ship departed Dumaguete Port, I was enjoying my sweet dreams. :D

Approaching Cebu
December 19, 2010 morning came and "hello.... Cebu!!". We prep our selves, returned the borrowed beddings and went outside to take a view as we approached the port for our official arrival in Cebu. As the vessel approached the port, we saw some natives asking for "limus" from the passengers as they used their "bangka" (small boat) to get near the ship and beg for something.

Begging
I saw one boat that almost sank and so with the kid that the mom or the grandma (or so I thought) brought with her. They immediately transferred to another small boat from I think a neighbor before it sank into the water. It was heart stopping to watch them, and so we threw some biscuits and coins to them as they caught it with their self-made cloth catcher.

Our first stop was the office of the Legion of Mary where Rommel used to leave his things when in Cebu. Unfortunately, Rommel's relative isn't around anymore, but they were kind enough to let us leave our baggage at the guard house while we went to Cebu's Churches.

Cebu Cathedral
We all went to Cebu's Cathedral. It wasn't my first time, I think maybe my 4th or 5th time. We often passed by Cebu City when we visit Bohol so I'm somehow familiar with the place, but not that much, the longest stay was just overnight so, I barely knew the place. After the cathedral, we went to the famous tsokolate't puto maya at a street in between the Cathedral and the Basilica del Sto. Nino Church (http://basilicasantonino.org.ph/) to have breakfast. I really suggested this cause me and my family tried this before and we loved it, and it's one of those things I missed in Cebu. :D

Puto maya't tsokolate
We had a great breakfast and then we went to the Basilica del Sto. Nino. We fell in line to pay a visit to the Sto. Nino, then attended mass after (It was a Sunday). We positioned our selves comfortably enough, Rommel and Tess somewhere at the left side near the doorway and me at the right side near Jesus's figure. Our concentration was a bit disturbed with some foreigners (They look like Koreans but I don't know really) squeezing in and giggling, as they have their pictures taken inside the church right beside the praying individuals, while the mass was on going. It was distracting to some, I can see some frowning people as they witness this, but nobody asked them to stop. I guess, our hospitality to our foreign brothers and sisters goes way beyond respect and delicadeza.

After hearing mass, we went back to the guard house to get our things, grab a cab and went to Crown Regency Tower, to get a taste of sky adventure while in Cebu.

The hotel staff were kind enough to get our baggage and store in their counter/storage room while we settled for our adventure agenda for the day. We got instructions from the staff and so we arrived at the 18th floor  to pay the Php 550.00  package with a choice of ride, either the sky walk or edge coaster, a souvenir shirt and a snack. It opens at 10:00 AM and we were just in time to be one of the first set of customers/clients to attend to.

Basilica del Sto. Nino
After paying, we went to the 39th floor where the edge coaster was located, but we chose the sky walk since there were three of us, we can go together and edge coaster can accommodate two per coaster so I won't have a company if we chose it. We went to the floor since to get to the sky walk entrance we have to go down to the 38th floor via the stairs. But before we went down, we stayed for a few minutes and enjoyed the view of Cebu City from the top.

Crown Regency Tower Lobby
As we arrived in the sky walk entrance, we were given our own locker for our things. We were not allowed to bring any, specially our cameras-they have their official photographer to take our pictures. We were ask to leave everything, bags, even jewelries like necklaces, earrings and watches. I guess that's for our own safety and I like that they take precautions. I just hoped we could have brought the camera though... :)

Viewing Deck
Sky walk was a cool thing! I had fun! Wish Labsy was there with us to experience it too... After the walk, we were asked if we'd like to buy some of our pictures and so we did. After which, we took our personal belongings back and then were given our survivor certificates. Cool aye? We went down again to where we paid for the sky walk and had our snacks.

Certified Survivors!
After the crown regency adventure, we went to Ayala Center, and had our lunch at their food court. Our trip back to Davao will be at 4:00 PM so we still have time to stroll in the mall. We bought some souvenirs to take home with us. I bought nice Cebu shirts for me and Labsy too.

We arrived in the airport at about 2:30 PM, checked in and waited for boarding. However, our flight was delayed, so we bought something to munch on, where Tess introduced me to a superbly appreciated hot pork "chicaron" that I fell in love with, some doughnuts and cup of hot coffee to be relieved from boredom.

Me, the Skywalker!
After an hour, our ride from Airphil Express (http://www.airphilexpress.com/) arrived and off we went home sweet home to Davao. Hello Davao! And of course, I'm back home to my super missed Labsy...

Wherever you may be, perhaps away from the one dearest to you, live life to the fullest, but keep your heart long for the one waiting, whom you're always home....
