2010 Spillover 08 : Siquijor que Horror! Or so some thought...

A lot of people thinks Siquijor is a place of horror. Underlies the place are stories of different strange and unexplainable circumstance that most if not all believed it to be the work of another dimensional beings.

Most of us are scared to travel to this place cause we don't want to have a not-so-good experience with our third eye or with friends having one. But as our adventure mode kicks in, me, Rommel, Tess and Moses did not mind the rumors and stories we heard. We got ourselves tickets for a Dumaguete-Siquijor trip last December 18 and off we went for another adventure of a lifetime.

We failed to get the first trip for the day so we got the 10:30 AM second fast craft trip for Php 160.00 each. Amazing how many people come and go to this place. I was imagining a not so crowded trip since a lot of people tend to not include this as a haven for a getaway. But I saw people not just the residents of Siquijor but also some tourists trying to squeeze themselves in for a ride, and not only that, there were chance passengers waiting as well...

So we hop in and joined the squeezing in the entrance of the vessel and settled ourselves in our seats. I tried to get a sleep, I did but not really that successful, I get awaken by the sun rays and the obvious uncomfortable air conditioning. But it was just about an hour and a half, so I let it be...

When we reached Siquijor, we saw what a lot of people failed and will fail as they believe that Siquijor is a no place to be. A very lovely beach. Right up front, just beside the port. Way too lovely for a place beside the docking port of vessels coming in and going out of Siquijor.

So we went on, stopped at the nearby restaurant, just right outside the port, and had our lunch before we head on for our adventure. The same restaurant offers rent-a-motorcycle for Php 30.00 per hour and that's what we did. We rented two motorcycles, Rommel and Tess used one and me and Moses used another. And for about three to four hours, we conquered Siquijor! And all four of us managed to stay alive and in one piece, just in case you're asking...

After our lunch came the joy ride... Our first stop was the nearest church from the port, just about a 2-minute walk. It was an old Church, situated at the center of a crossroad. This Church basically welcomes you in Siquijor.

Second stop, the Coco Groove. It was a beach resort, and I believe I've already mentioned how beautiful the beach was, then add a relatively large swimming pool and a well designed set-up, and it was perfect. Now I'm missing it... I really want to go back there and stay for a little more time than we did. Sadly, it's not like it's just an hour ride away from Davao... :(

Our third stop was Siquijor's oldest church. It was really old and they somehow did not maintain it well enough. But we all loved the flooring. It was wood, and they were nice to feel. Moses did took off his footwear to have a feel of the shiny wooden floor.

Oldest Church
Right in front of the church was the oldest convent, or so it used to be. Now, nested in it is Siquijor's museum. We visited and educated ourselves with the available writings and artifacts, which I cannot show you since we were not allowed to take pictures while inside the museum.

We checked our watches and somehow a bit worried that we might not be able to make it on time for our 4:30 PM trip back to Dumaguete, which tickets we already bought when we arrived for Php 120.00 each. A bit frantic but we managed to find a detour/shortcut.

We stopped over for refueling, then off we started our way back to the port. By the way, fuel was just along the road, in a softdrink's bottle, so you cannot missed it. On our way back using the detour, I was a bit cautious than usual. The area we entered was kind of eerie and gave me a feeling of uneasiness.

Checking out shortcut
Even if we were on a motorcycle and Moses was driving a bit faster to catch up with time, I tried to make myself aware of all the things that we passed by while we're en-route, especially when we saw a very old woman as she crossed the street. Holding her cane on one hand and another something in a cellophane in the other. And what freaks us more was she was wearing a maria-clara-like white dress, that we usually saw on horror movies these days. I felt relieved when we went passed her and nothing happened... lol...

Old Convent
Well, after a few minutes, the next thing we knew, we're in the center of the province, passing by their market place and a few establishments like shopping mart, pawnshop and others. After a turn or two, we're already back at the restaurant, returned the motorcycles and paid them for the full amount of the rent. We made it just in time to have a little time to rest, take a snack and play with the sun, sand and sea...

Having fun with Nature and Friends!

You'll never know what lies ahead until you move forward... So, if you want to take an adventure, don't forget to be cautious but keep the faith and the excitement alive!
