Baguiocious, Zoobic and Klownz Airlines - Part III
The 3rd of the three-part-story would be this... Our Manila stop-over before goin' home to Davao after Baguio and Subic escapade.
Manila, the capital of the Republic of the Philippines. It was Alden, Em-em, Hilda and Judith's first time to visit Manila. So even with the little time that we have left, we managed to experience a little taste of Manila.
When we arrived in Manila from Subic, we just went to our dorm for a quick cleanup and then went out for a late night comedy bar happenings...
We then went straight to Quezon Ave. for Alan K's Klownz comedy bar, where their main set then was Ate Gay. It was a fun evening, everyone had a great time laughing out loud on every joke and punch lines thrown on stage. Then we went back to our dorm with a smile up to our ears and funny memories we can take home with.
The following day (Oct 25, 2010), was Em, Alden, Judith and Hilda's day to go home, back to Davao. But before going to the airport, we went to Manila Cathedral for a quick visit and prayer, then to the Mall Of Asia for brunch and krispy kreme shopping for the awaiting family and friends in Davao.
Well, as they stepped back in Davao, that's how their adventure ended. But me and labsy, I guess, there will always a challenge in every adventure that we went to. This time, it's quite something we never really expected.
After strolling in MOA (Mall Of Asia) for a bit, we went back to our dorm to get a nap. We woke up late in the afternoon quite hungry, so we went out and walk our way to the nearest fast food in the area which is near Manila Cathedral. But we never really made it there, it rained for just about 2 minutes, and the road was flooded already and even if we had an umbrella with us, the wind and rain made it to us in a swift. We were drenched, badly enough, we turned our way back and bought cup noodles for dinner. :(
As if that wasn't bad enough, about a couple of hours after, we received a call from AirPhil Express (www.airphilexpress.com) that our flight the following day, Oct 26 at 6:45 PM, was cancelled and rebooked on Oct 27 at 2:00 PM. I couldn't believe what I heard and was surprised I wasn't able to utter a word for a while, but nevertheless I managed to ask if there's still a chance we could fly back to Davao on the same day as scheduled even on a different time or carrier. The lady on the other line said, we just need to be at the airport as early as we could so they can arrange something for us. So instead of a day of going around Starcity, we ended packing early and went to the airport for a newly arranged flight.
Well, the Airphil Express Staff were kind and apologetic with the aircraft problem thus the cancellation, so we did not mind the inconvenience. Due to this situation, we (me and labsy) were able to make friends with two other Airphil passengers with the same dilemma. Both of them are from Surigao, they were in Manila for a conference but had to cut short their schedule due to a misfortune back home. AirPhil arranged us on the 3:00 PM same day flight with Philippine Airlines with a free transfer from Terminal 3 to NAIA. It wasn't bad, we said, as long as we can go home on that day, it wouldn't be so bad at all...
So we waited for hours for our 3PM flight, but the what we thought a solved problem created another problem. It went past the hour of three but there was no call for boarding, so I became worried. At 3:30PM, an announcement was heard, the flight was cancelled again due to aircraft problem and rebooked us for a 3:00 AM flight the next day. But this time, PAL (Philippine Airlines / www.philippineairlines.com) gave us options. We could either take the transportation allowance of Php 1,000.00 per passenger or take their transfer, hotel and dinner accommodations. Me and labsy together with our new found friends decided to take their accommodations for our convenience.
Another case to face, and then another two friends were found because of this experience. They were from Dubai and Texas, and one of them also came home due to a family misfortune. They joined our group and all six of us went to the bus for the airport-hotel transfer and waited for instructions. They took us to the Century Park Hotel (http://www.centurypark.com/), and there we were all awed by the nice place they took us to.
The hotel was one of the nicest hotel I've been to. We rested for a while, then strolled to the nearest mall, the Harizon Plaza (just right in front of it) and went back to enjoy the buffet dinner prepared for everyone. After dinner, we had picture taking with our new friends and then went back to our room to rest and waited for our 1:00 AM bus ride to the airport.
Finally, the dawn came, the phone rang for our wake up call, our ride was waiting at the back entrance and the next thing we knew, we're on our way to Davao.
After all, we can still say, thank you for the day that has been...
